Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, from 10th-16th May 2021, with the theme ‘Nature’.
There is significant evidence that demonstrates the powerful benefits of nature for our mental health. During the long months of lockdown, getting outside for walks, watching wildlife and gardening was a coping strategy for many people. Not only can nature bring support in times of stress and reduce feelings of social isolation, but also increase our creativity, empathy and sense of wonder.
At NJC, we decided to undertake a ‘step up to clean up’ challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day for a month, to help our wellbeing and increase our connection with nature. As a team, we managed to walk 3,736, 730 steps and raised money for the charity Just One Ocean. We will be organising Beach Clean days during the summer for our employees and customers, to get in touch with nature, provide an act of kindness and support the cleaning up of our planet.
We constantly review and improve our processes, to ensure the healthiest and happiest workplace and are revising our wellbeing strategy, with support from Investors in People. We will have key data sitting behind our approach, which will allow us to carefully monitor behaviours, processes and activities to ensure we have a strong wellbeing culture integrated at all levels of our business.
To support Mental Health Awareness week, we have attached our mental health newsletter which provides information about mental health and self-help tips. We hope that it will support our employees even further, as well as helping our customers and wider community, and would be very grateful to donations to the Mental Health Foundation.
